World’s First Mega-Ampere Hydrogen-Boron Fusion Achieved by Chinese Enterprise

Recently, China’s ENN Group successfully achieved mega-ampere hydrogen-boron fusion using its self-developed “Xuanlong-50U” spherical torus experimental platform. This marks the first time globally that stable, high-parameter discharge has been realized in hydrogen-boron plasma, representing a historic step toward viable fusion energy technology.
Unlike conventional deuterium-tritium fusion, hydrogen-boron reactions primarily generate charged particles with minimal neutron radiation, making the process far cleaner and safer, with virtually no radioactive waste. Theoretically, this path also promises higher energy density and more efficient direct electricity conversion, earning it the reputation as the “ultimate clean fusion energy.”
In this context, ENN’s recent breakthrough stands out: using its self-developed “Xuanlong-50U” spherical torus platform, the team achieved mega-ampere current-driven hydrogen-boron fusion—marking the first time globally that stable, high-parameter discharge was realized for this fuel path. The success validates the feasibility of high-parameter p-B11 plasma and advances future magnetic confinement fusion development.
